Faro is 3.25 hours of equally relaxed travel. Seville airport is
also 2 hours now that the new motorway is complete. Driving
around the Alentejo's roads is a very low stress activity. We
have one set of traffic lights in Elvas, entering through one of the
gateways in the town's defences.
Local directions from Elvas - when coming from
Lisbon on the motorway you take the first exit signposted to Elvas. You
continue straight over 3 roundabouts, passing the aqueduct on your left.
At the fourth roundabout with a fireman statue hosing a fire turn right signed to Olivenca/Ponte da Ajuda. Wriggle 3 km into the countryside
past a huge white building, Santa Casa de Misericordia on your right, you will
then see our flags on your left.
